Slipstream is a reflex based racing game. Steer your ship through 25 different courses while attacking, defending, and avoiding the walls, and try to come out on top! Throughout the pages of the manual, you will learn how to control your slipstream ship and some racing techniques to help you win those challenging leagues.It is highly reccomended that you read this entire manual before attempting to play, as you may miss out on alot this game has to offer!
Part 1: MovementSlipstream ships are controlled in different ways, one being ;Single Player Mode.While racing leagues in the campaign, you will be in single player mode. meaning your ship can be controlled in different ways. To move up, you can use the W or UP ARROW keys, to move down, the S or DOWN ARROW keys, and to brake, you use the A or LEFT ARROW keys. Multiplayer Movement on the next page...
Part 1 Cont'd: Movement The other form of movement, multiplayer movement, comes into use when you are playing in multiplayer mode against another person. The controls are as follows:Player 1: W to move Up, S to move Down, A to Brake.Player 2: I(i) to move Up, K to move Down, J to Brake.Now on to Attacking...
Part 2: Attacking your enemies.you cant always stay ahead by skill alone, you're bound to run into a wall at some point. This is where attacking comes in. After picking up an Attack Powerup (Red), the more attack powerups, the stronger the attack(max 3). In Single player mode (campaign), you use the E key to activate your cannon, the Mouse Cursor to aim, and the Mouse Left CLick to fire.In multiplayer mode, Player 1 uses E to fire forward, and Player 2 uses O to fire forward.Next, Defence. Part 3: Defending yourself.You can try to dodge shots, but you may still get hit, and you'll be knocked far back if you are. Use a shield to prevent this;First you need to pick up a Defence Powerup (Blue). Then you press:Player 1(all modes): D or Player 2(multiplayer): L,activating a shield to protect you from attacks.Each defence powerup you collect, to a maximum of nine, adds 1.8 seconds on to the shields time, allowing you to protect yourself for longer. Defence Powerup:
Part 4: BoostingBoosting is one of the most useful ways to overtake your opponents. You need to either pick up a Boost Powerup (Purple), or run over a Boost Pad. You can carry a maximum of nine boosts, and use them any time.For Player 1(single player), use the Q or Space key to boost.For Player 1(multi player), use the Q key to boost.For Player 2(multi player), use the U key to boost.Boost Powerup: Boost Pad:
Part 5: General Tips. Avoid the Walls. They are the star-patterned shapes that you are traveling through. Each time you colide with a wall, you will bounce back and loose alot of speed, giving your enemies the perfect chance to overtake you. In the later levels, Braking may help you avoid walls, and although it brings your speed to 0, it is not as bad as hitting a wall.Example Walls:
Part 6: Leagues and Unlocking.The campaign takes you through the process of completing all the levels, in five different leagues. The first league, Beginner, is optional, because of the level simplicity, we did not want to force players to miss the action of the later levels. You can choose to start on either the Beginner league, or the Intermediate league.The Beginner league does not offer any reward, other than the levels for multiplayer.
Part 6 Cont'd: Leagues and UnlockingEach time you complete a race, the next race in the league opens and you can race that, for the next race and so on.Each time you return to the race select, all the unlocked races are autosaved, so you dont have to worry about losing your progress when you close the game. When you complete a league (Intermediate or higher), with a rank above Turd, you unlock the next league.
Part 6 Cont'd Again: Leagues and UnlockingFrom the start, only 5 multiplayer levels are available, but as you complete races and leagues in the campaign, more become available, and you can play them anytime.If you wish to restart the game, with no races or leagues unlocked, you can clear the game data by selecting that button in the options screen. Be careful, because there is no way to get that data back.Thats all, you're ready to play Slipstream!
